Loyalty oaths and religion

Headline from the San Francisco Chronicle "Quaker Teacher Fired for Changing Loyalty Oath."

Updated 3/10/08: And now she has been rehired with a clarification that the oath does not require part time math teachers to use violence in defense of the US and California constitutions.

What loser would make a comment during Spring Break? Anyway, this is oaths and allegiances run amok. If her religion requires a belief in non-violence, than the state should allow for that as long as it does not interfere with the job she is doing. The chances that she would find herself in a situation where she would violently have to defend the state or federal Constitution with a weapon are next to nil. Give her a break...if she is qualified to teach and has received good marks and comments in her reviews, than I say let her teach.

Come on!
If part time math teachers are not going to protect the constitution then who is?
